A neurological disorder that stems from damage to or a dysfunction of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord).  There are several known causes of this syndrome including brain or spinal cord injury, stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, tumors, epilepsy, limb amputation and/or Parkinson’s disease.  Symptoms are characterized by a mixture of pain sensations; constant burning (often increased by even a light touch), loss of sensation, brief but very painful bursts of sharp pain, and pain affected by temperature changes (most commonly cold temperatures).
