Topiramate is a medication used to prevent and control seizures (epilepsy).  It is known as an “antioconvulsant” or “antiepileptic” drug.  It is also used to prevent and decrease migraine headaches due to the effect it has on the blood vessels in the brain, though it does not treat a migraine once it occurs. Off label and investigational uses of Topiramate include: Bipolar Disorder, alcoholism, obesity, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), essential tremor, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Bulimia Nervosa, Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension, cluster headache, etc.
