Occurs when blood flow is cut of to an area of the brain and, in turn, brain cells that are deprived of oxygen and glucose begin to die.  When those brain cells die, abilities controlled by the particular area of the brain can be affected and/or lost.  Depending on where in the brain a stroke has occurred, as well as how much damage is done, will determine how much a person is affected.
