A diseased caused by a bacterial infection transmitted to humans by Ixodes ticks (deer ticks) or black-legged ticks.  Symptoms can include:  flu-like symptoms (fever, headache, fatigue, chills, sweats, muscle aches, nausea, joint pain), characteristic, bull’s-eye pattern rash (erythema migrans), and weakness of the extremities.  Some people develop a form of facial drooping called “Bell’s palsy.”  Though the rash associated with Lyme Disease is often in a bull’s-eye pattern, some people don’t develop a rash at all, or if they do, develop a different kind of rash.  If it is not diagnosed and treated early, it may become “late-stage” or chronicLyme disease can potentially spread to other parts of the body and affect any body system, including the brain.
